The Corporation of the City of St. Catharines is a municipal corporation created by provincial statute, that continuously supports the growth and prosperity of their community. The City of St.Catharines previously adopted a Sustainability Strategy, called ‘Tending our Garden City’, which aimed to provide an overarching framework to ensure every municipal initiative or activity is aligned towards achieving common, community-identified sustainability objectives.

Since joining the Carbon Project in 2013, the City has continued to prove its commitment to the environment through capital investment projects and operational changes. Recently, the City of St. Catharines created its Environmental Advisory Committee, comprised of the Clean City and Green Advisory Committees; the committee focuses on environmental quality, resource conservation.

Merritton Arena Lighting Retrofit (2015)
The installation of energy efficient lighting at Bill Burgoyne Arena created the following benefits:
  • Reduced annual energy consumption by 35,900,878 kWh
  • $51,500 invested, $10,500 in savings
  • 4.3 year payback

Energy Efficiency Upgrades (2015)
By upgrading the energy efficiency of appliances and operating systems, the City saw reductions in annual energy consumption and carbon emissions.
