On Saturday April 29th, hundreds of thousands of people in 370 countries came together to march in support of improving climate change policies around the world. In Toronto, hundreds of people called for the government to reduce Canada’s green house gas emissions, and support more renewable energy solutions.
The marches were held in solidarity with similar events in the USA, timed to occur on Trump’s 100th day in office. Many people focused on respecting the rights of First Nations people, and more specifically, the environmental impacts of pipeline and oil sands projects. The website for People’s Climate Movement explains that citizens expect more from Canadian Political Representatives and marched “to protect our right to clean air, water, land, healthy communities and a world at peace”. The march was covered by CityNews, and a video can be located here for more information.
